Insects stimulate broiler breeders

Insects stimulate broiler breeders

Broiler breeders are kept to produce hatching eggs. It is not always self-evident that the parent animals feel good about themselves, because they cannot eat unlimited food all day long, they can get bored. As a result, aggressive behavior sometimes takes place. The animals can injure each other. This does not benefit mating behavior and animal welfare.

Adding insects to the litter area can improve both animal welfare and production results. The hens and cocks can meet each other in a more relaxed manner, and alternate feed-oriented behavior with mating behavior. Wadudu is carrying out this project together with poultry farmers and two high schools. A test will be devised and carried out, after which follow-up steps will be defined.
